The cross cut adit, so named because it intersects the main adit at ninety degrees.   This level used to be the main entrance to the mine when the ore was removed by    ponies prior to the steam trains being introduced. On the right would have been the miners dry where the men would change into their working clothes. Just inside the mines entrance, they would pick up their 'smack' of clay to secure the candles to the passage walls.
