The main adit
having been lost under a land slide since the mine closed, was finally
opened in 1996 after discussions with several Government departments.
The main purpose was to prevent further erosion of the hillside caused
by the water emerging out of the buried adit in the form of a
spring.
The mouth of adit had been located by the mines group in 1984 after a deep trench was dug but the passage was badly silted and there was some suspicion that a major roof fall lay just inside. This corresponded with a large depression further up on the hill. |
