As work commenced on the clearing of the Welsh shaft, the vent pipe from the top of the water pressure engine was located buried under the boulder pile. It was decided to replace this before anything else was done.

The Pipe weighs about 200 pounds and had to be hoisted into place. Four new whitworth bolts had to be made as the originals went missing when the early mines group attempted to disassemble and remove the engine. The two pipes on the left are the old low pressure water feed and the compressed air pipe.
