The public show adit at the bottom right was the very starting point of mining at Laxey when an outcrop of ore was discovered. 

This was the chosen place for an underground experience on the developing mines trail and in 1988 work commenced on the clearance of the old adit and construction of an access way.

The river once ran over the rock face above the adit and the remains of a sluice gate that fed the old forty foot wheel can still be seen.

Although only a short section of mine has been opened, it is hoped in the future to extend this as far as the old workings in the Engine shaft.
