Further to the east another project was under way.

The shaft at Dixon's mine was open to a depth of 100 ft and a survey revealed that the day level connected just below the blockage in the shaft.

The level was flooded to the roof as a result of  some land slippage and silting, but a two year dig and the burying of a fifty meter long  drainage pipe provided eighteen inches of air space.

The passage was pumped out many yeas ago but the air tested bad and the project was shelved.
