Before any work can be carried out on the flat rod system, it is essential to secure the Great wheel. Even a gust of wind has been know to move her.

 The T rocker at the engine shaft was disconnected for essential maintenance work in the shaft in 1999. Connected originally by the mines group and Dorothea Restorations in 1987, the linkage has been almost trouble free.
