After the shaft had been stripped of greenery, the rock walls were hosed down with high pressure water to remove any loose material. Ladders and safety lines were rigged from high above and measurements were then taken. New hitches were cut into the rock and the base timbers of 12ft in length by six inches square were set in place across the shaft. The area was then decked over to give a full working platform.
