Like many of the shafts scattered around the Island, Glen Cherry, located in the Corrany valley was wide open, deep and a considerable way down to water... The Mines Group was once again called in to deal with the problem.  A new housing estate....a new generation of young explorers, a new danger.  The shaft had to be dealt with quickly but with no vehicular access to the shaft it wasn't going to be easy. The nearest rough track was 200 meters away.A further problem was that the shaft collar was cut into rock and had three sides leaving nothing to work from. The first task was to clear away the growth exposing the rock face.
